In the first part of this special series on chimney hoods, we discussed how these kitchen appliances can help protect your health by expelling dangerous fumes and maintaining a good supply of oxygen in the kitchen while cooking. In today’s article, we will explain how having a chimney hood can improve your quality of life.
What is a chimney hood?
In case you haven’t read our previous article, let’s recap what a chimney hood is and what it does. A chimney hood, also commonly known as a range hood, cooker hood or kitchen extractor, is a kitchen appliance installed directly above a cooktop in the kitchen. It primarily extracts and filters out airborne pollutants generated while cooking. Such smoke, grease and other odours can not only be unpleasant, but also affect our health if inhaled in large amounts. Within its chassis, every chimney hood is typically equipped with a set of illumination lamps, control panel, filter(s), butterfly valve, air chamber and electric components which allow the device to function. When the hood is switched on, contaminated air is extracted by the blower and sent through the filters before going through the air chamber and butterfly valve.Â
As previously stated, a chimney hood should run in ducted mode, which allows contaminated air to be sent outside the home through a duct installed in the walls. However, if the appliance is running on recirculating mode, the partially cleaned air will recirculate back into the kitchen. In this mode, a dip in performance is to be expected. For more information on this, please read our article on operating your chimney hood in ducted vs. recirculating mode.Â
How can chimney hoods improve my quality of life?
We are often told that something which smells good must taste good. While a good aroma is essential to any good food, we don’t want to smell it in our sofas, curtains and kitchens for days afterwards. With Newmatic’s powerful chimney hoods, unpleasant cooking smells in the kitchen will be extracted and filtered, leaving you a clean-smelling kitchen to enjoy after your meal.Â
Furthermore, though they are an often overlooked aspect of a chimney hood, well-calibrated illumination lamps can also be a useful cooking companion for you. When preparing meals in the mornings or evenings when natural light is scarcer, chimney hood lamps can provide you an additional source of light so that you can see your food better. However, the lights’ colour is also crucial as well. Under an overly cool illumination lamp, you may underestimate your food’s doneness and accidentally overcook it. Conversely, under an overly warm lamp, you may overestimate the doneness of your food and undercook it.Â
To prevent this issue, Newmatic chimney hoods are fitted with daylight lamps so that you can make an accurate judgement while cooking and make perfectly cooked meals every single time.Â
